And here we are. Outside of the World Cup final, this is arguably the biggest event in Football. This is the first time since 2008 that we have an all-English champions league final. Manchester United and Chelsea were the last two English teams to fight for the trophy back in 2008.

Meet the coaches

On the left, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, from Argentina, in charge since 2014. On the right, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, from Germany, in charge since 2015. Neither manager has won a trophy. That ends tonight!

Head-to-head in all competitions, Liverpool and Tottenham have played each other a total of 172 times, dating back to 1909 in the League Division One. Liverpool have 82 victories, Tottenham have 48, and there have been 42 draws. This latest 2018/2019 season in the Premier League saw Liverpool win twice 2-1 home and away vs Tottenham.

Champions League Pedigree

Liverpool have won the champions league trophy 5 times. Only Real Madrid (13) and AC Milan (7) have won more. This is Tottenham’s first champions league final. Liverpool was in last year’s final vs Real Madrid and lost 3-1. Their coach Jurgen Klopp is no stranger to the champions league final. As coach of German club Dortmund, he reached the final of this tournament for the first time back in 2013 and lost 2-1 to arch-rivals Bayern Munich. Third time’s a charm? We’ll find out tonight!

Will Harry Kane play?

Tottenham’s talisman has been out of action for almost two months with ankle ligament damage. He recently said he is fit to play but there is the lingering question of form. His teammates Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura have been excellent in his absence and this gives coach Pochettino a selection conundrum ahead of the match.

Who wins?

Liverpool are favorites based on their blistering form in the Premier league and their record against Tottenham this season and overall. Also, they’ve been here before, having lost to Real Madrid last year. But never count out the underdogs. Tottenham look like a team of destiny, after breathtaking, dramatic wins vs Manchester City and Ajax (both matches away from home). Both teams play open, attacking football and this promises to be a treat!
