Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has called on the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki to join the opposition PDP, assuring him of a soft landing once he did.

The governor, who vowed not to seek an appeal against his “unjust” disqualification, has now become a darling target for PDP which is already hinting at Obaseki’s place should he decide to look the alternative way. Obaseki was called on Friday as plots thicken to woo the embattled Edo governor to PDP.

Former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has been reported to have called the embattled governor on Friday, June 12, asking him to join his party. According to a report by The Cable, the former presidential candidate of the opposition party in the 2019 general elections, called the Edo governor and assured him of a soft landing which may come in form of a waiver.

A close associate to the Waziri of Adamawa confirmed the phone call between the two political leaders: “The Waziri is wooing Obaseki on behalf of PDP. He spoke with him yesterday and encouraged him to join the PDP.

“He also spoke to some of the PDP governors and urged them to give him a soft landing and access to the party.”

With Godwin Obaseki losing the first battle in his bid to take the control of the soul of Edo state for another four-year term, there is an indication that the governor may pitch his tent with another party ahead of state guber election.
