We are sure there is a long queue for this, so this new lawyer can just get in line. A human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong is approaching a Federal High Court for interpretation and enforcement of Sections 151 and 171 of the 1999 Constitution following the decision of this our President who kept on his 100 aides in office without being re-appointed.
Section 151 states that the appointment of all special advisers shall cease when the President ceases to hold office, Section 171 states that the appointment of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and any office or the personal staff of the President shall cease when the President ceases to hold office.
Let’s break this down for those of us out there who aren’t lawyers. Once any President finishes his term, this means everyone else working under him finishes too. They are supposed to have stepped down and been reappointed but nearly a week after the official end of the President’s first term all the aides have continued in office….just like that.
The President couldn’t be bothered to give an inaugural speech, some may have felt it wasn’t a big deal but clearly it sets the tone for how the next 4 years are going to be. Read More here
