Amidst panic over the detection of coronavirus in the country, resident doctors of the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital on Saturday embarked on a five-day warning strike to press home their demand for an enhanced pay package.

Additionally, they have embarked on a warning protest as their twitter handle states;

“Enugu state ESUTH doctors are the least paid public service doctors in Nigeria -after those in Abia.They are still on 70 percent of a 2009 salary scale approved for public service doctors known as CONMESS. This salary scale has been upgraded in 2014, 2019 and 2020. @channelstv

“But Enugu state is still at 70 percent of a 2009 salary scale for doctors, even that was implemented in 2014. So for 11 years these doctors have been agitating just to be at par with their contemporaries.”

“So while the Enugu politicians /political appointees are at par with their contemporaries in other states in terms of emoluments, their doctors -the future specialists in various fields of medicine are still at 70% of an antiquated 2009 salary scale.#EnuguDoctorsLivesMatter.”

The Doctors are the first line of defense if there is a major coronavirus outbreak in the State.
