After the bizarre and disappointing night of football last Sunday against Algeria, the super eagles were eager to make a good comeback in the 3rd and 4th place match against Tunisia. The final before the final, with over 15 games played against each other, both teams were all too familiar with one another.
The game picked off faster than we could ever have imagined with Odion Ighalo sliding the ball home in the 3rd minute courtesy of a defensive mishap from the Tunisian defence. After the goal, the game settled down a bit with the super eagles creating more chances and asking questions of the opponents’ defence.
This would be Nigeria’s 8th Bronze medal in the competition, an impressive but heartbreaking feat.
Overall, this was a great outing for the Super Eagles with a lot of potential shown from the young lads. One can only dream of how good these guys will be in the next few years…..hints of the deadly 1994 team right there. Hopefully, Gernot Rohr continues sitting in the hot seat to keep that momentum going.
The Eagles would be coming back home to cheerful fans, hopeful of getting Gold in the next African Cup of Nations.
